So, let me get to this week's blog...
Last week I wrote about Coconut water as an excellent hydrating and electrolyte replacement beverage. This week I want to tell you about yet another superfood, this time in the form of a grain.
Quinoa—pronounced (keen-wah) is often referred to as “the supergrain”. It has been classified by the National Academy of Sciences as one of the best sources of protein in the vegetable kingdom.
This is a gluten free grain that is grown at 12,000 feet about sea level in South America. It has about twice the protein of other cereal grains, fewer carbohydrates, and even has some healthy fats.
It cooks up just like rice. Its nutty flavor is great as a hot breakfast cereal, or it can be a substitute for dinner rice dishes, such as rice pilaf.
Quinoa can be found next to the other grains in your supermarket. You can even find organic quinoa in the organic section if that is your preference.
This food is the answer for combat athletes looking for a high fiber, high protein, and low carbohydrate breakfast food. Be sure to add it to your superfoods list.
