I would like to invite all our members and friends to try the 24 day challenge. It is a great way to shed a few pounds, but it is not entirely about weight loss. It's also about overall well-being. As athletes, it is difficult to get adequate nutrition to support muscle preservation, joint support, and a strong immune system. AdvoCare makes products that I have personally seen great results from. The money spent on junk food that is killing us could easily be used to better our health using products such as these. If you would like to learn more about AdvoCare and/or the 24 Day Challenge, be sure to let Olga or myself know. --Larry Keith--
FYI for MMA fans: Alan "The Talent" Belcher is a non-paid AdvoCare endorser:
Wow! What an exciting week this is going to be. We're going to be doing some hard work and have a lot of fun with some cool technical training.
Thank you to everyone that helped out with our Judo demo and Dynamic MMA booth at the Roseburg Valley Mall for the 2013 Health and Fitness Expo. The demos were great. It was fun having some mats in the middle of the mall for a day.
I don't have all the results yet, but it sounds like our team did well at the Ground Warrior tournament as well. I do know that Ian King won first place in his gi division by submitting all of his opponents and had a spectacular throw. Congratulations, Ian!
Here is what we are doing this week
Kodokan Judo
Monday-Thursday
Numerous escape options from Hon-kesa-gatame. After this week, there should be no reason any of our Judoka should get caught in this pin.
Tuesday-Friday
O-uchi-gari used to set up many other combination throws. There is a reason we have had everyone learning ko-uchi and o-uchi. Not only are they great throws, they are a great tool to get a reaction from the opponent to set up follow up attacks.
Mixed Martial Arts
Monday-Thursday
RWT (Russian Wrestling Techniques)--Takedowns using underhook and wrist control. We are also going to practice getting the underhook from the Russian 2 on 1 arm tie.
Tuesday-Friday
RWT (Russian Wrestling Techniques)--We will be returning to the Russian 2 on 1 arm tie series. I love this grip and use a version of it with gi grappling as well. It gives the thrower a great positional advantage. Learn it!
Brazilian Jiu-jitsu
Monday-Thursday
We will work a handful of defenses vs the standard side mount and preventing the full mount. These techniques work very well. You can prevent points from being scored and put your self in better position for sweeps/submissions.
Tuesday-Friday
Submissions from bottom guard. These subs are not too fancy but have high success. We'll be practicing a few ways to set up armlocks and triangles.
Muay Thai Kickboxing
Monday-Thursday
Good workouts planned this week. We will be going over using thrust kicks in combinations and counter kick strategies.
Tuesday-Friday
Working for dominant clinch position is of paramount importance in Muay Thai. We will go over and drill many variations of gaining or regaining control.
--I think this sounds like a very fun week at the dojo. We have fighters training to fight on February 23rd in Salem. We will be putting them through a very tough training camp.
I hope everyone has a great week. See you in the dojo!
Dynamic MMA celebrates the 10 year anniversary of the opening of our dojo. Our anniversary potluck on Sunday was packed. It was very nice to have a chance to visit with everyone while enjoying the fine cuisine prepared by dojo members. Once again I have to say that not only to we have fine martial artists in our dojo, but also fine culinary artists as well.
I wish to thank all that have supported the growth of the dojo over this past decade. It has been a great pleasure to watch our students learn and grow together. Some students that are with us now, have been with us since the beginning and still others are just getting started. We cherish each of our dojo family members.
We plan to continue growing our dojo. We are constantly seeking ways to improve our programs and the education our students receive. Here are some of our plans already in the works for 2013.
--Developing a solid system for our kids' classes to include more anti-bullying education --Educate kids and parents on stranger danger and risk awareness --More self defense workshops for teens and adults --Hosting more dojo family friendly gatherings (potlucks, picnics, etc.) --....and much, much more.
We hope that you all continue to train with us and help the dojo grow to new heights. Take great pride in your dojo. We have all come a long way together and together we will continue to do great things.
This week in the dojo:

Jiu-jitsu
Monday-Thursday
We will be returning to basic escape techniques from under the mounted position.
Tuesday-Friday
Basic defense from bottom side mount position.
Mixed Martial Arts
Monday-Thursday

Tuesday-Friday
Get ready to sweat. We will be working some circuits to burn some calories and develop some strength and cardio.
Muay Thai
Monday-Thursday-Friday
Heavy bag work and light sparring.
There will be no adult Muay Thai class on Tuesday this week.
Happy New Year to everyone. We hope everyone has had a pleasant and safe holiday season.
Congratulations to our Tony Pepe, Anthony Filan, and Wesley Murphy for receiving their Kodokan Judo rank of Shodan. The test lasted five hours. They were all on task and looked great, executing techniques with expert skill. We will post video highlights as soon as editing is done.
Our annual potluck for senior Judoka members was fantastic. We got to experience some of the fine cooking of our brown and black belts (and spouse's). We got to discuss the past year as well as plans for the coming 2013 year. We see lots of good changes and growth for the dojo.
We also want to welcome Tony Pepe as our new instructor for the kids' Judo programs. Tony has been practicing Judo since he was a kid and originally trained under Yuzo Kato at UCC. He has been with Dynamic MMA for several years and has developed a great level of communication with the students and parents. He is also one of the most patient instructors at the dojo.
This month, our dojo celebrates it's 10 year anniversary. It has been a long journey with many ups and downs. We will continue to seek out ways to improve our programs and continue the growth of our dojo. Thank you to all that have passed through our doors and a special thank you to all that have persevered to stay with us. You are all very special people that make it a pleasure to teach and share.
This week inside the dojo:
Wednesday is Randori and Sparring day for adult classes every week. If you are a member of one of our basic programs and would like to try out one of the Wednesday classes, ask Sensei Larry Keith or Sensei Olga Keith for more information.

Thurday-Friday
This week we will concentrate on grip fighting and continue to revue IJF rule changes.
Pankration Mixed Martial Arts
Thursday-Friday
RWT (Russian Wrestling Techniques)--We will return to some drills and skills from the 2 on 1 Russian tie up. This is a versatile way to control your opponent's posture and set up a variety of attacks. We will also go over a couple of counters to the 2 on 1.
Brazilian Jiu-jitsu
Thursday-Friday
We will go over some basic defenses/escapes from bottom side mount position.
Muay Thai
Thursday-Friday
Tough workout, sparring drills, and rounds of light sparring.
